The Perfect Pair

Posted by Katherine Louise Marr on

When it comes to fashion, there are a few staples that everyone should have in their wardrobe. One of those staples is a good pair of jeans. But with so many different styles and cuts on the market, it can be hard to know which pair is right for you.
In this blog, we’re going to take a look at different styles of jeans and how they can complement your natural shape. We’ll also give you some tips on finding the perfect pair of jeans for your body type. So, whether you’re looking for a skinny pair of jeans to show off your curves or a wide-leg pair to balance out your hips, we’ve got you covered!

1. Decide on the style of jeans you want:

Choosing the right style of jeans is an important first step to finding the perfect fit. Skinny jeans are a popular choice, as a classic everyday essential that will take you from day to night. If you want something slightly more relaxed, try a boyfriend or straight-leg jean. A bootcut jeans's job is to help to create a more balanced silhouette.Whichever style you go for, make sure to try a few different brands in order to find the perfect fit for your body type. Our greatest range of jean styles and fits comes from Irish Brand Rant&Rave. We also stock in denim from other brands in Olive&Crew such as French Connection and ICHI

These Twiggy Raven ICHI jeans are extremely flattering with a mid-rise relaxed fit and straight leg. We love how they've styled this for a double-denim look! It’s important to note that each style of jean is designed to fit differently so be sure to take the time to try on a few different varieties to find the perfect pair.

For men, a regular, slim or skinny fit are all popular options, while a straight-fit or classic style is a better choice for those wanting a little extra room.

2. Consider the rise of the jeans:

The rise of a pair of jeans refers to the length between the waistband and the crotch. Low-rise jeans sit on the hips, while mid-rise jeans sit just below the navel. High -rise comes right up to your bellybutton and sits over the hips. Choose the right rise for your shape, as a pair of jeans with a too-low rise, can be unflattering and uncomfortable. High-rise jeans are ideal to elongate your legs, as they sit at your natural waistline. If you prefer something a little less fitted, opt for a mid-rise jean that will give you more room in the hip area. We love how these Rant&Rave Ena High Rise Skinnys gives you the longest leg and nips in at the waist to give a long shape and comfortable fit.

3. Think about the length of the jeans:

For a perfect fit, it’s important to choose the correct length of jean for your height. Traditional jeans come with a standard average inseam measurement (the inner length of the leg) which sits just above the ankle. For most people, this is the ideal length because it creates a balanced silhouette and allows you to show off your shoes. If you’re on the shorter side, then go for cropped or petite jean instead. Those with longer legs can also opt for a slightly longer inseam, up to just above the floor, if they want to create a lengthening effect. Here we've got our French Connection Kalypso Kick Flare jeans for a great example of a slightly shorter jean which still elongates the leg and also shows off your new shoes too!

4. Choose the right size:

Once you’ve decided on the style of jeans you want, make sure you get the right size. Jeans can always be tailored if they’re a bit big, but too-small jeans can be incredibly uncomfortable to wear. So, try on a few different sizes to make sure you’ve got the perfect fit. Remember to factor in that denim tends to stretch a bit with wear, so bear in mind that a pair of jeans doesn’t need to be too tight. As a general rule, you should be able to fit two fingers easily into the waistband to ensure a snug fit. Here is a link to a jeans size calculator! In it, there is a guide on how to measure yourself and your measurements in in different units making it easier to know what size you are in different brands! Jeans Size Calculator.

5. Find a pair that fits your budget:

Although designer jeans can definitely make a statement, they can also come with a hefty price tag. For those on a budget, there are also a few moderately priced brands that still look great. To get the most for your money, search for denim made from fabrics like cotton, which is also used to make twill or corduroy garments. High-quality jeans made from cotton will wear better so be sure to check the content of your jeans before you buy. All of our Rant&Rave jeans in-store are cut from authentic cotton denim with a hint of stretch for comfort. These Carey Tummy Tuck jeans are a great example with almost 80% cotton and no comprimising on comfort!

With everything we have considered throughout this blog, we know you will be equipped with all the decision making power to find your perfect pair. After all, having a flattering pair of jeans in your wardrobe should be essential for every wardrobe. Following these steps will make sure that you find a pair that fits you like a glove and looks good too.

Good luck!
